The name derives from “cane”, meaning dog in Italian, and “corso”, derived from the Latin “cohors”, and meaning “guardian”, or “protector”.

There is a well documented history of the breed that goes back to around 1500 AD. This tells us that the Cane Corso was a working dog, used to protect homes, to herd livestock and to hunt large game. The dogs were also used in combat, both as a dog of war, and as gladiators, pitched into combat with wild animals in the arena.

During World War II, the breed’s numbers were seriously decimated, and they may well have become extinct were it not for the S.A.C.C. (Societa Amatori Cane Corso), an organization that was formed to revive and preserve the breed.

The Cane Corso is an incredibly powerful dog that stands up to 27 inches at the shoulder and can weigh as much as 115 pounds. These dogs look extremely intimidating, but are not aggressive by nature, although they will most certainly respond if attacked.

With those close to them they are extremely protective, affectionate and loyal. They are good with children, and make excellent pets. They are also highly intelligent, and respond well to training.

Corsos have a unique coat that has been described as “leathery”. They may be brindle, fawn, black, or gray in color. A white patch on the chest, toes and nose may also be present, and are acceptable in the breed standard. The typical Cane Corso profile is athletic, rather than bulky, but the overall impression is still one of power. These dogs have incredibly powerful jaws, and an impressively muscled neck.

With any dog this powerful, training is an absolute must. Cane Corsos, especially males, can be dominant dogs so it is important to start that your puppy gets obedience training.

These dogs are best suited to an experienced owner. Someone who is able to exert dominance and keep unwanted behaviors under control. The last thing you want is a Cane Corso who thinks he rules the roost.

Socialization is also imperative because, as a breed with a strong protective nature, they are naturally suspicious of strangers.

The Cane Corso needs a great deal of exercise and will do best with an individual or family that enjoys outdoor activities. You should be careful, though not to overexert the dog. As with all short-faced breeds, the Corso can have respiratory problems in hot weather.

A breed this large is not suited to apartment living. They require a large yard, but still need regular walks off the property. It goes without saying that you should always walk your Cane Corso on a leash.

Finding puppy names, for your Cane Corso is an easy task, when you know where to look. My recommendation is puppy names hq.com, a site with an extensive database of dog names including 1000s of girl dog names to choose from.

Dog owners are often faced with choices, as to where they should board their pet. Numerous dog owners also find out that their dog has suffered throughout their boarding time. How can you keep away from having negative dog boarding experiences for the pet?

We highly recommend that you pay a visit to the boarding kennels that you are thinking of utilizing, this something you will probably have to do prior to leaving your animal with a sitter.

It is best if you, walk by the kennels, having one of the staff members show you through the facility. A Kennel that says they won't allow people into the kennels, is a sure sign that the dog boarding service is probably hiding something from you. And it would be best that you not use this daycare

Sanitary conditions in a kennel also can indicate that there will likely be a negative dog boarding experiences. Those kennels that tend not to have clean runs and poor ventilation are going to be the root of the worst negative dog boarding experiences for the pet. The boarding location you opt for must not smell negative despite the quantity of dogs present.

Some negative dog boarding experiences could trigger your pet to have lengthy lasting psychological troubles. These are the negative dog boarding experiences that involve abuse and ill therapy of a animal. Becoming caged and separated from it is possible to be 1 issue. However if you see your dog changing their behavior after you have use a sitter, towards you or a family member is usually a sign of abuse

Ask a kennel to permit you to get in touch with those clients that already use their services.

The safety of a dog and his well being is an additional vital component in avoiding negative dog boarding experiences. Be sure the boarders that you are thinking of utilizing;... only boarder animals which are up to date with their vaccinations. You need to also be sure that all animals you'll find are checked and treated for fleas along with other parasites just before you let your dog invest even just 1 evening. Just before you board your dog, make sure that your doggy friend has an up to date bordatella vaccine.

This is just natural canine behavior, and can have a number of underlying reasons.

So before you get yourself into a blind panic and rush off to the vet, stop for a while! There's probably nothing to worry about. Throwing up is just your dog's natural way of clearing something from his system.

Of course, I'm not suggesting that you ignore it completely, because sometimes vomiting does suggest a more serious problem. But you'll need to observe the dog for other symptoms, for example, If the vomiting is accompanied by diarrhea, loss of appetite and general listlessness.

If these symptoms are present, get your dog to the vet right away, even though in most instances, it’s probably nothing to be concerned about.

Here are the most common reasons why dog's throw up;

Eating too fast - Many dogs tend to woof their food down, a throw back to the days when they could be attacked while eating. Feeding 3 to 4 smaller meals rather than one large meal may sort out the problem and will also protect against bloat, a potentially deadly condition.

Consuming Grass - Nobody really knows why dogs eat grass, but many of them seem to love it. Some experts believe they eat grass to induce vomiting, while others say that eating too much grass makes them vomit. Either way, eating grass often makes a dog throw up.

Eating the wrong food - If your dog makes a habit of raiding the trash can, or if you feed him junk food or table scraps, he may very well throw up. Feed a healthy, balanced diet, and I guarantee that you’ll reduce this.

When should I be worried?

Although vomiting is usually nothing to worry about, it should also not be ignored. The first thing you should be alert to is the frequency. Once in a while is not a problem, once or twice a day merits a veterinary check up.

Also be alert for the symptoms I mentioned earlier, lethargy, lack of appetite, and diarrhea, as well as other signs, like blood, or unusual coloration in the vomit. In these instances, get the dog to the vet right away.

There may also be a more immediate cause behind your dog's vomiting. For example, the dog may have eaten a poisonous plant, a household poison, or even a large amount of chocolate. If you think this make be the case, get the dog to your vet immediately.

How To Stop Your Dog From Vomiting

Dogs will always throw up, but with a few commonsense measures it is quite easy to reduce the frequency of your dog's vomiting.

To begin with you cut cut out all the "human foods" you give your dog, including junk food and table scraps. You can also secure your trashcan, so that the dog can not get at it. Then you can reduce the size of your dog's meals, but feed him more frequently. Lastly, you can add a fiber supplement to your dog's food, so that he will reduce his intake of grass.

In most cases, these simple steps are enough to sort out the problem. If however, your dog continues to throw up, you should speak to your vet.

<fb:like href='http://petsaddicts.com/2012/02/08/keeping-your-labrador-retriever-can-you-afford-it/' send='true' layout='standard' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='like' colorscheme='light' font='lucida+grande'></fb:like>
When you have a new baby, there isn’t a lot of choice but to make sure they have diapers, food, clothing, and other necessities. The great thing about taking in a dog is you do have the choice to either bring them home or wait until later to adopt. If you decide to adopt now, you must be prepared to pay for their care just as you would a new baby. Following are the expenses you should be prepared to handle.

Fees for Adoption or Purchase can vary greatly. Purchasing a puppy from a breeder that offers purebred labs can be expensive, so consider adopting a Labrador retriever from a shelter or rescue group. There are many purebred and mixed labs in shelters that could lose their lives if they are not adopted. The fees are much less than with a breeder as well.

If you have a big budget and want to ensure the pedigree of your dog, then you can go with a breeder or visit a pet store. If you want to save a bit of money, visit a local shelter. Shelter dogs will be more affordable to adopt, but you must study them for behavioral issues or health problems before bringing them into your home. chocolate Labrador Retriever puppies Atlanta is a very affordable place to get a puppy. They have AKC puppies from time to time.

Care from a Vet can be very expensive at times. Vet care comes into play immediately after bringing a dog home. You will need to catch them up on their required shots, check for worms or other health problems, and potentially get them spayed or neutered. If you are concerned about covering these expenses right away, consider adopting from a rescue group. Rescues are good about giving their dogs their shots and spaying or neutering them before adopting them out. They will also let you know if a dog is not good with other dogs, cats, or children.

If you end up adopting through a shelter, you can find dogs that have already been spayed or neutered. Many shelters will give out a voucher to cover the spay or neuter, and many operate shot clinics that will take those expenses down considerably. Even if you do not adopt from a shelter, you may be able to use these shot clinics to save money.

Training is a very important consideration. Your Labrador retriever will need some training so they blend smoothly into the family. At the very least, you can expect to invest in a good book that describes training techniques. Preferably, you should be prepared to take your new dog in for training at a local store or have a trainer come to your home.

Dog Food and Toys need to be considered. Feeding your dog can be as simple as purchasing food from a local store, or as complicated as learning to make fresh dog food at home. Housing your dog can be as simple as providing a bed or crate in the house, or as complicated as setting up a fenced yard or dog lot with dog house outside. You may need an outdoor dog house and an indoor crated bed. Toys will also be needed so the dog has safe entertainment.

Finally, how willing and able would you be to cover emergency expenses for your dog? You do not have to be rich to own a Labrador retriever, but you should think ahead to how you will hand a potential accident or unexpected health problem. Pet insurance may be the cheapest way to make sure the dog is covered.

Having a new dog in the home is a fun and exciting experience for all, but in between it all, there's work to do. There are puppy supplies to be bought, training to be done and of course, puppy poop to be cleaned up.

This article covers the 5 things every dog owner has to do in order to raise a happy, well-adjusted dog.

1. Crate Training Tips

By the time you bring your puppy home you should already have bought a dog crate. This plastic holder is just about the most useful piece of doggy equipment money can buy. It serves as an indoor kennel, a dog carrier, and a tool for potty training.

Training your pup to remain calmly in the crate should be your first priority. It will keep him calm while he settles into his new home, and later you will use the crate as an important part of house training.

2. Vaccinations

All puppies need to be vaccinated. Generally this will be in the form of a 5-in-1 vaccine protecting against common canine diseases. Follow your vet's instructions strictly on this, as most of these diseases are fatal to a puppy.

3. Potty Training

Common knowledge has it that you must start house training the minute you get your pup home. This will almost always be doomed to failure. The puppy will be disorientated and afraid and will hardly be in the right frame of mind to be taught anything.

So, for the first two weeks, focus on crate training, which is easy as it involves no instructions and taps into natural canine behavior.

After two weeks the puppy will be settled into his new home and you can now begin potty training. Actually, if you started with crate training, as recommended, the puppy will have more-or-less house trained himself by now.

4. Socialization Training

Socialization serves two purposes, it introduces the puppy to a wide array of people and animals, and it teaches him how to behave towards others. Introduce your pup to as many people as you can, both inside and outside the family. Also introduce him to other animals in the household, but always supervise these introductions, and keep the puppy on a leash.

5. Bonding With Your Dog

If all of this sounds like hard work, it shouldn’t be, raising a puppy is fun. Take time to play with your puppy, as this is important to building a bond. As you play, gently correct any bad behavior, like biting.

Yes, puppies can be a lot of work. They can be time consuming and at times they can try your patience. But they're also an absolute joy to have around. Their puppyhood passes so fast and before you know it that little bundle of fur will be a strapping adult dog. If you followed the advice in this article he will also be a happy, healthy and well-mannered dog.

For your pet moving is really a stressful time, animals don't like to change from an atmosphere they're comfortable in to 1 which is unknown to them. Even a short move about the corner can anxiety a domestic pet which is unprepared for the change. Given that your pets are members of the family members you need to move them with all the least level of anxiety and hassle feasible.

Dog training is not something that comes naturally to every pet owner, though. Never fear! A little advice can go a long way towards making the training process fun and hassle-free. Read on to discover some handy tricks to take the guesswork out of dog training. Click here to know more about house training a dog today.

Be as generous with affection as you are with discipline. So many people spend a great deal of time yelling at their dog to stop doing things that they should not be doing and not enough time showing their dog that they love them. Let him know he is loved and he is sure to behave better for you.

One tip to keep in mind when training your dog is to be sure that you introduce it to social environments early and frequently. Your dog needs to know how to act around other dogs and humans - this is not something you can teach it otherwise. This will help to reduce sporadic behavior in new environments as well.

Be sure to spend time with your dog and teach him things every day. When he is a puppy, teach him his name, how to come when called and show him the proper place for toileting. When he gets a little older, begin gentle leash training. When he is six months old, join an obedience class so that he can learn how to behave in public and get some formal training.

When you are working on commands with your dog, work only on one command at a time, and only say the command one time. Do not say the command word more than once. Your goal is for your dog to obey the command immediately. You don't want to have to say the same thing over and over.

To stop a dog from digging in your yard you will need to figure out the cause. Some breeds are just natural diggers, but other dogs dig because they're bored, lonely or want a cool place to lay down when it's hot. If you leave your dog in the backyard for hours with little attention, interactive exercise or no cool place to stay out of the sun you may be contributing to the problem.

When you are house training your puppy, remember, what goes in, must come out. To keep your puppies toiletry habits regular, feed him a high quality food 2-3 times a day at the same time each day. This will give you an idea of when to take your puppy out and lessen the chance of accidents.

Your dog is the product of many generations of domestication and breeding. If you have a purebred or mixed dog, tailor your training efforts to your dog's personality. For example, herding dogs may need more work to release energy that would otherwise go to herding efforts to make something like taking leashed walks easier.

Sometimes a dog trainer must punish their dog. Punishment does not eliminate the behavior the trainer wants to discourage, though; it merely suppresses it. Canny trainers know that punishing a dog only encourages them to hide the behavior for which they are being punished. It is better to entirely replace an undesirable behavior than to punish a pet for engaging in it.

Not all dog training needs to involve food based treats. Some dog breeds respond better to non-edible rewards. These rewards could very well include stuffed toys, rawhide bones, or rope toys. They will also have the added benefit of giving you and your dog a new activity to enjoy together.

Don't get angry or upset if your dog doesn't learn a new trick right away. New tricks take time to learn and require patience and persistence from you. Praise your dog for each correct response and try not to get frustrated. Your dog can sense your frustration and that may cause him to get discouraged.

An important dog training tip is to use the pet's name whenever you are trying to get its attention. You need to get your pet used to responding to you when you call it by name. Use the pet's name when you feed it, take it for walks and play with it. Randomly call your pet to you by name several times throughout the day, and then reward it for coming when called. Never call your pet by its name to come to you only to be punished.

Puppies tend to nip as a way of communicating, and this should be curbed. It is normally a signal that they want to play. If you observe a puppy with his litter mates, this is the way that they interact with each other. When your puppy nips you, say 'no' firmly, and immediately give him a toy to play with.

Allowing your new dog gradual access to all areas of your home will greatly aid you in training and will spare damage to couches, shoes and floors. As your dog learns not to do things like jump, scratch, and chew, open more doors to him. Many make the mistake of allowing full reign of all rooms, which really just offers the dog more opportunity to do the wrong thing.

Following the tips above and persevering with some basic training steps on a daily basis will help your new dog to be an obedient, loved and integral part of the family in no time at all. Just remember that Rome was not built in a day, and neither was a well-trained puppy. You can train you dog better by knowing more about http://puppyobediencetrainings.com/dog-training-advice/ now.

<fb:like href='http://petsaddicts.com/2012/02/07/study-these-tricks-for-a-obedient-dog/' send='true' layout='standard' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='like' colorscheme='light' font='lucida+grande'></fb:like>
As a new dog owner, you may be overwhelmed with the amount of work it takes to make sure your dog is both healthy and well behaved. This article will go into detail regarding tips specific to your situation, a new dog owner, and ways that you can successfully train your dog.

Teaching your dog a "release" command is as important as teaching him "sit" and "stay". However, when choosing your command word, make sure it is not a commonly used word like "OK", or "good". Your dog associates word sounds with commands, and will not understand that you are telling your kids "OK", not him!

Properly trained dogs can be taught to regard their crate as a place of safety. When possible always keep the crate in a central location so that the dog learns to understand that it is there and available all the time. He will begin to seek it out when he is tired and even when he is scared and seeking comfort.

When training your dog, do not ever neglect good behavior. Regardless of the situation, if your dog performs according to your expectations it should be rewarded. Even if your pet's overall behavior is unsatisfactory, you should praise and reward it whenever it does what you want it to. Unambiguous rewards are the best way to encourage the behavior you want.

To successfully train your dog, start by making sure to use its name when you call it. Call your pet by name for feedings, walks and play, but never for punishment. This ensures that you will be able to get your dog's attention once you begin asking for more complex tricks.

You need to recognize when your dog is indeed behaving like you want them to. Do your best to reinforce any desirable behavior that you see when they are behaving the way that you intend for them to behave. By reinforcing what is right, it will help the dog develop good habits and start acting that way regularly.

When you are training your dog, focus on what your dog does right during the training sessions, not what they do wrong. This will make training more enjoyable for both you and your dog. Enjoyable training sessions will ensure that your dog remembers what you taught and is ready to come back for more at the next session.

One tip to keep in mind when training your dog, is to always reward good behavior, and discipline bad behavior. This is important because your dog needs this stiff structure. Otherwise, it may get confused. Your dog can not comprehend many human emotions and needs a strictly on/off type of response from you.

Paper train your dog. If your dog is left home for long periods of time, he will need a place to go to the bathroom. With this housebreaking method, accidents do not occur in other areas of the house, and the dog learns the proper place to do his business.

The way you train your dog depends on your own goals and your pet's temperament, of course. Certain methods and strategies can be effectively applied with any training program. If you choose the methods presented in this article that suit your needs and your canine companion's attitude, you will be able to get your dog jumping through hoops - maybe literally - in no time.

A lot of the treatments claim these herbs function with the dog's body's immune system to create an environment where parasites cannot live. Nonetheless, not one of the websites supply scientific analysis to support their claims. Particularly these websites market a huge selection of items. Staying in business isn't evidence that the natural heartworm treatment for dogs products are effective.

Heartworms In Dogs

More than 70 % of dog owners who use all-natural preventatives do not share this information with their vet. Many folks believe these treatments give good results, however they are self-conscious to let their vet know they are utilizing these treatments. In addition, owners who use all-natural treatments will take their own dog to a holistic healer as opposed to a vet.

Sadly, many of the statistics are not obtainable regarding these all-natural treatments simply because the dog may be treated by the holistic healer as opposed to a vet. The number of dogs that die from these treatments isn't monitored unless of course the dog is cared for by the vet.

The FDA hasn't authorized any all-natural preventative treatment for heart worms. In addition, a recent consumer up-date issued by the FDA advises owners to make use of authorized preventative treatments. Till scientific analysis is done with herbal treatments, there's no definitive evidence these all-natural treatments will avoid a heart worm infection. In addition, there's absolutely no evidence all these all-natural treatments can kill and expel the adult worms. The only preventative that has a verified reputation will be the FDA approved treatments.

Before you make a final decision to make use of all-natural heartworm preventative treatments, discuss your choice with your dog's vet. Your veterinarian will clarify the risks of both all-natural and authorized preventatives. In addition, the vet more than likely has cared for a number of dogs that were on all-natural preventatives. Your veterinarian could talk about his or her knowledge with such treatments.

Pet owners need to make the most effective choices to keep their pets healthy. Unfortunately, several of the claims made by producers of all-natural preventive treatments are appealing to owners. Only you'll be able to decide if it's worth taking a chance with your pet's health. Current accredited heartworm preventive drugs are safe and successful when put to use correctly. Ensure you discuss your selection with your dog's vet's.

These medium-sized dogs stand up to 27 inches at the withers and can weigh as much as 75 pounds. They have a black and tan coat and the appearance of a typical hound dog, with long, hanging ears, loose fitting skin and long legs.

The original Black and Tans were created by crossing Talbot Hounds, Foxhounds, and Bloodhounds. The idea was to create a dog for treeing racoons, but the Black and Tan proved such an able tracker that it was soon being used to hunt larger game, including deer, mountain lions, and even bear.

These are loyal, affectionate and good-natured dogs who form close bonds with humans. The are also intelligent and fast learners which makes them excellent pets for an appropriate owner.

You should be aware though that this dog has very high exercise needs and is likely to develop destructive behavioral problems if not exercised enough. This dog will do best with someone who spends a lot of time outdoors and is prepared to include the dog in lots of activities. Black and Tans are prone to separation anxiety, and they will often howl if left alone.

Training and socialization are important with these dogs, while strong and consistent alpha leadership is a must. An unsocialized dog may become either aggressive or timid. As a hunting dog, the Black and Tan will chase small animals, so it is important to keep your dog leashed.

While they are generally good with people they are not really suited to small children as they may be too boisterous for them. With the right training and sufficient exercise though this is an excellent pet and a wonderful companion.

This is a healthy dog breed with few of the dread diseases that are often found in purebred dogs. Hip displaysia is known to occur, while the long ears are prone to infections and the dog may also suffer eye problems, like cataracts or progressive retinal atrophy.

The Black and Tan can be prone to obesity, because it loves to eat. You will need to strictly manage the dog's food intake.

Grooming a Black and Tan is a relatively easy job. The short coat requires only a brush down once or twice a week to keep it in good order. As part of your grooming routine you'll also need to inspect the ears and keep them clean, dry and free of infection.

Black and tans are active dogs and not really suited to apartment living. They do best with an active lifestyle and plenty of room to move around. They are a hardy breed and quite capable of staying outdoors in all weathers, although they do prefer being close to their family.
